Mansfield 2020 Award Winning Agency
Salmon Leaps Forward
Recruitment agency Senior Salmon, which was set up just two years ago has recorded a turnover of just over £4m. The company also recently won the Most Promising New Business category at the Mansfield 2020 business awards. Based at the iCentre on Oakham Business Park in Mansfield, the company was founded just two years ago by Jamie Senior and Martyn Salmon.
“From a standing start in 2012, we have placed around 1,200 people – mostly from the Mansfield and Ashfield area – within both temporary and permanent work,” Jamie said. “That’s quality work. We never place anyone in a role we would not do. If companies have previously treated people in an unethical manner, we will not work with them. After all, it’s our name on the door. The recruitment industry has had a lot of bad press and its reputation has been tarnished. But our fresh and transparent approach of building relationships and working hard for people is paying off.”
Jamie and Martyn, both in their early 30s and from the Mansfield area, had worked together a number of years ago, at a company in the iCentre. But Martyn left to join a large recruitment company and soon after Jamie followed. After a few years, Jamie and Martyn realised they could run a recruitment business themselves; one with the right ethos and a focus on delivering the right results for everyone.
Specialising in engineering, commercial and industrial sectors but operating across many more, Senior Salmon works with more than 40 local businesses on a weekly basis, supplying in excess of 130 people into permanent positions during the past 12 months. One of the company’s largest partnership clients is Synseal Extrusions Ltd based in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, a company that employs more than 800 people. Senior Salmon sourced, interviewed and recruited 72 local people whose temporary posts became permanent at Synseal through 2013.
“Jamie and Martyn have worked with Synseal for more than seven years; they know our business and our needs, working closely with our management teams,” Kevin Bush, HR Director at Synseal Extrusions Ltd. “Their knowledge and expertise is critical to delivering our ability to quickly flex our workforce with good quality, motivated staff.”
Senior Salmon has plans to increase the number of consultants within its own business, and is investing heavily in software to further improve the recruitment process.
